Preheat your oven to 350F and line a 9X13 baking dish with parchment, set aside.
In a large bowl, using a hand mixer, cream the butter. To the bowl add the maple syrup and vanilla. You want the consistency to be light and fluffy. To the bowl, add the flax eggs and mix till just combined. Now add all your dry ingredients (flour, baking soda and sea salt). Combine till a large ball forms. You will likely need to stir with a wooden spoon. Transfer the dough onto the prepared baking dish, evenly, and bake for 10 minutes.
While the base cooks, make the pecan topping. Cream the butter using a hand mixer. Add to the maple syrup and vanilla till combined. Slowly add in the flax eggs and bourbon till everything is smooth and incorporated. Fold in the pecans or walnuts and chocolate chips of choice.
Remove the base from the oven and transfer the pecan filling evenly over the base. Bake for another 20-22 minutes. Do not over cook. You want the top to be golden and the centre will jiggle. Don't worry it will set.
